The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute is Australia's leading biomedical research institute, with a strong history of significant discoveries of clinical importance.
The WEHI Bioinformatics Division (http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au) is one of Australia's leading bioinformatics research groups, with particular strengths in microarray data analysis, statistical genetics, comparative genomics and molecular evolution. The Division has strong collaborations with many scientists in medical biology and is supported by an excellent IT department.
We are seeking an individual with strong mathematical and data analytic skills and a knowledge of biology to join the Bioinformatics Division, working as part of a research team on the analysis of data from gene expression microarrays and related technologies including ChIP-Chip and SNP chips. The position requires the development of new statistical methodology and algorithms as well as collaboration with medical scientists on scientific projects involving the large-scale analysis of primary data.
The position would suit a PhD graduate in statistics with excellent computing skills and experience in medical research, but graduates of other relevant disciplines including mathematics, physics, computer science and biology who have a solid grounding in statistics are also encouraged to apply. The applicant must be highly motivated to work on problems in medical biology.
This position is available for two years in the first instance. Salary range: $57,171 - $61,370 plus up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options.
