Interested in a career in epidemiological modelling?

In the Monash University Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine we are commencing a program of research to improve the effectiveness of chronic disease prevention in Australia. This program is funded through a 5 year NH&MRC Health Services Research grant, entitled 'Better targeting of preventive services using epidemiological modelling', and involves collaboration with Erasmus Medical Centre in the Netherlands and the University of California in the USA.

We are currently recruiting for a number of positions within this program, including the following:

* Senior / Research Fellows
* PhD students

We are seeking applicants from a variety of backgrounds, with experience in any of epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, actuarial studies, and econometrics, as well as health, social and behavioural sciences. An interest in the application of epidemiology to health policy, combined with strong quantitative skills would make this an ideal program for you.

The purpose of this program of research is to improve the effectiveness of chronic disease prevention. The focus is to develop epidemiological models that can assist policy-makers to make more informed choices of which preventive programs to fund, improve the ability of clinicians to provide accurate preventive advice and to increase the ability of consumers to make decisions about preventive activities (that may relate to themselves or their communities). The work includes calculation of burden of disease indicators, evaluating costs and effects of health policies, cost effectiveness studies of interventions and "what-if" projections. The application will be for settings in Australia, however the models developed through this work will have international relevance.
