Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Continuing) in Statistics

The School of Physical Sciences is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in applied statistics. The statistics group in the School is the major provider of undergraduate and postgraduate statistical education in Queensland, and is a leading centre of statistical research in Australia.

The focus of the School's research in applied statistics is directed towards topics in bioinformatics, biostatistics, classification and the related fields of machine learning and pattern recognition, computational statistics, cross-entropy methods, experimental design, finite mixture modelling, reliability, and simulation.

The appointee will be expected: to teach in the School's undergraduate and postgraduate programs in statistics, particularly to large first and second level undergraduate classes; provide Honours and higher degree supervision; to maintain a strong research record.

Applicants should possess a PhD in statistics, and have a strong publication record in applied statistics and a commitment to obtaining research funding, commensurate with career stage. Experience in the development and implementation of courses in statistics is desirable, and an ability to teach large classes is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with staff and students are also essential.

This is a continuing, full-time appointment at Academic Level B or Level C. The remuneration package will be in the range of $77,515 - $92,048 (Level B) or $94,955 - $109,489 (Level C) per annum, which includes employer superannuation contributions of 17%. Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
