Statistician

A. Job Purpose
Department of Rheumatology within the St George Hospital requires a full time statistician. The Department has completed a five year randomized biomarker controlled trial on 220 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and is currently working on three other studies two of which are NH&MRC funded. The successful applicant must have proven statistical skills using a variety of biostatistical, social science or econometric approaches. Familiarity with Bayesian as well as standard frequentist analysis is desirable, as well as modeling of longitudinal data. Ability to be self motivated and work without supervision is essential. He/she will work in conjunction with A/Prof Marissa Lassere

B. Duties
* Develop and conduct statistical analyses of real and simulated data as directed by A/Prof Lassere
* Development and management of research longitudinal databases
* Manuscript preparation and submission, and research presentations
* Preparation of reports and manuscripts for submission to funding bodies and peer-reviewed journals
* Maintain accurate documentation
* Ensure timely reporting
* Any other duties as directed by A/Prof Lassere

C. Environment: The St George Department of Rheumatology:
* 2 Clinical Rheumatologists
* 1 senior registrar
* 2 Administrative Staff
* 8 Research Officers/Assistants

D. Reporting Relationships
A/Professor Marissa Lassere
Positions reporting to this position: Nil

E. Principle Accountabilities
* Ensure high standard of support to A/Prof Lassere in the development and implementation of project analyses
* Ensure high standard of records maintenance

F. Minimum Education Required
Graduate degree in statistics or equivalent experience

G. Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria
* Proven experience in a relevant discipline to quantitative statistical analysis
* Satisfactory oral and written communication skills
* Proficient computer skills using statistical software, word processing, internet, email, spreadsheet and database skills
* Familiarity with SAS, Stata statistical software
* Demonstrated flexibility and resourcefulness;
* Demonstrated good planning, organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
* Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Salary: depending on qualifications and experience

This position is available for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal of contract.
