Energy Market Modeller

McLennan Magasanik Associates (MMA) is a strategic consulting company which has for over 20 years
specialised in providing technological and economic analysis and advice to private and public sector
clients. MMA’s core expertise is in applying quantitative analysis to areas which require a combination
of technical, economic and business expertise. Our perspective is independent, international and long-
term. While most of our current work is in energy, the firm also operates on water, environmental and
process industry assignments. MMA’s principal office is in South Melbourne, with a branch office in
Brisbane.
MMA is the reseller of PLEXOS electricity market simulation software in the Asia-Pacific and Africa
regions. We are seeking an Energy Market Modeller who will work, in the Melbourne office, on
modelling electricity markets using PLEXOS simulation software and supporting MMA’s clients who use
PLEXOS. The role will cover a wide range of activities including managing users’ queries, supporting
training programs in the use of PLEXOS, developing and maintaining databases for the different
markets in MMA’s reseller regions and constructing models to produce future electricity price and
revenue forecasts.
The Modeller will have excellent mathematical, analytical and information management skills, must be
able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people within and outside MMA and possess the
confidence, initiative and creativity to solve problems. Tertiary qualifications in a numerate discipline
such as Operations Research, Mathematics or Statistics are essential. Expertise in the use of one or
more energy market models, a theoretical knowledge of linear programming and experience using
SQL/Oracle, XML and Excel macro programming will be highly regarded.
