PhD Scholarships in quantitative and computational biology / bioinformatics with the Complex Systems in Biology Group@UNSW.

Description:
The Complex Systems in Biology research group at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, is offering scholarship supplements for Australian or University Postgraduate Awards (APA/UPA) for students with a strong undergraduate record to commence a PhD in quantitative and computational biology / bioinformatics. Students with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, physics, bioinformatics, computing science, biology, or other scientific field, are sought to work on projects aimed at understanding immune responses to infectious diseases. No prior experience in biology is required – just a strong quantitative background and a willingness to learn new ideas.

Payment Information:
Scholarships of $8000 p.a., to be held for up to three years, are available to students to supplement Australian or University Postgraduate Award.

Research Information:
The Complex Systems in Biology group utilises theoretical, mathematical, statistical, computer modelling and bioinformatics approaches to better our understanding of biological processes that occur at the molecular, cellular, and population level. Specific research interests include understanding the three major infectious diseases of our time - HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis.

Eligibility:
This scholarship is to supplement students successful in applying for an Australian or University Postgraduate Award.
