Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow

An exiting opportunity has arisen within The Health Services Research Centre as it seeks to appoint two part-time researchers or one full-time researcher as Research Fellow(s) or Senior Research Fellow(s) for a fixed term position of 20 months. The appointee(s) will work with a multidisciplinary research team on an HRC-funded research project into clinical decision-making by surgeons. Collaborating with a team of senior clinicians, a biostatistician and a data collection team, the appointee(s) will develop analyses and materials for feedback to surgeons on their clinical judgments.

Position Overview Well qualified individuals would ideally have all of the following skills, interests and personal attributes, however individuals who meet some, but not all, of the requirements below are encouraged to apply- an interest in clinical decision modelling

  • postgraduate qualifications (at least bachelors degree with honours) in a relevant discipline, for example statistics, mathematics, psychology, computer science, operations research or econometrics
  • familiarity with principles of social judgement theory and judgement analysis, or strong networks to draw on to develop their understanding of this field
  • familiarity with Bayesian modelling, knowledge of the R software system, an interest in statistical computing and programming.
  • exemplary presentation and communication skills which will enable effective verbal and written communication with senior clinician participants in the study
  • a self-starting attitude, and ability to immerse him/herself in new material, master it quickly and make a substantial contribution to the study.
  • preparedness to travel during April 2008- April 2009 to Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin Hospitals.

    The position will preferably be located in Christchurch or Wellington, although other options may be considered for the right candidate(s).
