Working from Macquarie Hospital, North Ryde
The position of Senior Statistician exists within InforMH, a service
unit of the NSW Department of Health, Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol
Office (MHDAO). InforMH is a devolved unit of the Mental Health and
Drug & Alcohol Office (MHDAO), hosted by NSCCH.
InforMH’s primary purpose is to support MHDAO by:
building and maintaining clinical information systems to improve
public mental health and drug & alcohol system performance. This
includes the collection and collation of clinical information,
performance measures and clinical indicators.
supporting specific information development projects including the
Mental Health Information Development Project, SCI-MHOAT, MH-UPI,
MATISSE, CHIME, MERIT and the HIE.
developing systems for improved collection, collation, analysis and
reporting of clinical information in order to better support clinical,
operational and policy decision makers.
delivering mandatory and ad hoc reports to NSW Department of
Health.
InforMH’s core business is comprised of three streams, Performance
Analysis and Reporting (PART); Operations & Systems; Clinical Utility
operating in a collegiate environment to deliver InforMH’s mandated
outcomes.
The Senior Statistician will be a member of the Performance Analysis
and Reporting Team (PART). PART is responsible for providing
InforMH’s system performance and reporting obligations. This is
achieved by designing and specifying new and/or enhanced data
collections reports and performance indicators; analysis of mental
health data (including longitudinal analysis) to support service
improvements and improved clinical outcomes, and responding to ad hoc
and Ministerial Enquiries.
The key opportunities/challenges for the position are:
The linkage of data from a variety of sources to create longitudinal
treatment records for individual clients, which include outcome
measures.
Dealing with data quality issues in developmental databases
Identifying the optimal research method to use having regard to the
outcomes required and available resources.
Maintaining familiarity with the extensive range of current
research, policy and initiatives impacting on mental health and drug and
alcohol services, so that projects and policy advice reflect current
knowledge and best practice.
Completing the work required in the period allocated, requiring
close attention to project timetables and milestones, and the capacity
to organise work and meet deadlines
Integrating information from a wide variety of sources and subject
areas.
Dealing with a wide variety of information systems.
Managing the various agendas of stakeholders and getting them to
work together towards the achievement of common goals.
Exercising judgement when representing the position of InforMH
and/or MHDAO on working parties and committees.
Being accountable for content and advice that is presented/given.
Demonstrated experience in maintaining privacy and confidentiality
of health information in accordance with the Health Records and
Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIPA)
