Katherine Chisholm, 16 November 2007
Research Officer
Cancer Council Victoria
The Cancer Council Victoria (an independent charity) is seeking an experienced Research Officer to work with the dedicated team in the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer.
The Research Officer will conduct statistical analysis and report writing for a series of internationally significant research studies relating to media influences on Australian adolescent smoking behaviour and Victorian’s sun protection behaviour. The first study, funded by a newly-awarded NHMRC project grant, will examine the effects of mass media campaigns and tobacco control policies on secondary student smoking over 15 years. The second study, supported by the Cancer Council Victoria and VicHealth, will assess trends in reported sun-protection attitudes and behaviours over 18 years, and the extent to which changing exposure to mass media campaigns, fashion imagery and news coverage about skin cancer prevention, explain these trends.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to work as part of a team committed to high quality program and policy-relevant research. We seek a degree-qualified individual with Honours in a relevant discipline and related research based work experience that includes data analysis and report writing. With the ability to undertake quantitative analysis, an appreciation of design issues in behavioural studies and an understanding of the concepts used in modern statistical software, you will possess the ability to correctly interpret research findings and communicate these to others.
Independence and strong written and verbal communication skills are important pre-requisites.
This position is full-time fixed term (for 2 years) with Total Equivalent Package Value of $54,356-$77,166 pa (includes base salary, annual leave loading, superannuation and maximum additional benefit of salary packaging).
