Biostatistician
(Confirmation Path, Full-time)
The University of Otago, Christchurch (formerly known as the
Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences) has a vacancy
for a Biostatistical Consultant. The Biostatistical Consultants
provide statistical advice and analysis in support of a wide range of
health research throughout the Campus. The Biostatistical
Consultants are involved in design, analysis and interpretation of
research studies including laboratory studies, clinical trials and
other clinical studies, and epidemiology. The successful applicant
will have postgraduate qualification in statistics (preferably at
least a Masters degree) or an equivalent combination of
qualifications and experience. A broad knowledge of modern
approaches to statistical methods and theory and an interest in
applying these to practical problems are pre-requisites for the
position. While applicants could have interests in any relevant
areas of biostatistics, the Campus has identified a need for
increased biostatistical expertise in bioinformatics, genetic
association tests, analysis of micro-array data, and newer methods
for analysis of longitudinal data (including missing data) in
clinical trials. Communication skills are also important, as is the
ability to work independently. While an applicant with some
biostatistical consulting experience would be preferred, applications
from recent graduates are also encouraged. There will be some
opportunity for the successful applicant to develop their own areas
of research, either independently or with other research groups. The
position is full-time but enquiries from people wishing to work
part-time are also welcome.
Specific enquiries may be directed to Associate Professor Elisabeth
Wells, University of Otago, Christchurch, Tel +64 3 364 3616, Email
