Statistician
Dragonfly
We are looking for a statistician or quantitative scientist with an
interest in environmental problems to join us in Wellington. Initially,
your work will be focused on estimating seabird and marine mammal
mortality in New Zealand fisheries. Affected species include albatross,
sealions and Hector's dolphin. There is considerable public interest in
the conservation of these animals, and your analysis will provide a
crucial input into their management. You will be involved in all stages
of the project, including production of reports and scientific publications.
You will have a recognised mathematics, statistics, or relevant
scientific post-graduate degree and, ideally, practical experience.
Specifically, you will have skills in the following areas:
A strong background in contemporary Bayesian statistical methods
Demonstrated proficiency in R
Experience in the analysis and management of large data sets
An ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication,
including scientific publications
This is an exciting opportunity to join a small developing company. You
will be able to participate in a range of projects, and there may be
scope to bring on new work-streams to satisfy your complementary
interests. A quantitative background is essential. Previous experience
in an environmental area, while desirable, is not required.
