Bioinformatician

Queensland Institute of Medical Research

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research is one of the largest medical research institutes in the southern hemisphere, with programs in areas such as cellular and molecular sciences, epidemiology and population health, human genetics, cancer biology, biotechnology, infectious diseases and vaccine development.

The ProBE-Net Oesophageal Research Consortium is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to join our research team. ProBE-NET is a multi-centre consortium for the study of Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Chief Investigators are based at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR; QLD), St Vincent's Hospital and UNSW (NSW), Flinders University (SA) and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC; VIC). The consortium is funded by a Strategic Research Partnership grant from the Cancer Council NSW.

The Consortium is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to maintain and curate large biological databases, provide skilled assistance in the analysis of biological datasets using proprietary and public domain data analysis programmes, and provide general bioinformatics support for our genomic and proteomics research programmes.

The successful applicant will have a BSc or higher qualification coupled with experience in bioinformatics or in a biological discipline. A practical knowledge of databases and data analysis software, demonstrated expertise in R language, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, are essential. Experience in analysis of microarray and/or CGH data would be well regarded. Applicants with specific post-graduate qualifications eg (PhD) in Bioinformatics are strongly encouraged to apply

The successful applicant will be employed by Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QLD) but may be based at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research or the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (VIC).

Salary range is $47,784 to $64,848 per annum for Research Assistant/ Research Officer level and $68,261 to $81,063 per annum for Senior Research Officer level commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive salary packaging and superannuation options also apply. This is a full-time appointment for two years with the possibility of review subject to funding availability.
