The CSIRO Division of Mathematical and Information Sciences delivers scientific results that have impact for information-intensive industries through productive partnerships and research excellence in the mathematical sciences.

The Division employs around 165 staff including 150 researchers with expertise in mathematics, statistics and software development. Staff are based in seven of Australia’s eight capital cities (excluding Darwin).

Research effort falls into four broad capability areas:

computational mathematics

mathematical and statistical modelling and inference

image segmentation and classification

simulation and optimisation.
