Data Modeller
Institute for Molecular Bioscience
The Institute for Molecular Bioscience is a national
research and development initiative at the University of
Queensland. The Institute incorporates the Centre for
Molecular & Cellular Biology, the Centre for Drug Design
and Development, and the ARC Special Research Centre for
Functional and Applied Genomics.
The Queensland Facility for Advanced Bioinformatics is a
recent State Government funded collaboration between the
University of Queensland, eHealth Research Centre, QUT,
Griffith University, DPI&F, APAC and QCIF. It will
generate knowledge from information via the integration of
data across multiple disciplines in biotechnology, health
and ICT. QFAB aims to greatly increase capability at the
interface of the biotechnology, health and ICT sectors,
and will substantively link Queensland universities and
research institutes with the commercial biotechnology,
health and ICT sectors through specific R&D collaborations
within a common environment.
The role The successful candidate will focus on the
bioinformatics discovery and computational analysis of
pathways and networks in breast cancer with the objective
to find new nuclear receptor family members that may
provide rational targets for prevention, novel treatments
and improvement of existing treatment approaches. A key
aspect of the research will be the collection of
experimental data generated by the project and their
integration within the wealth of information available
from public sources. By creating such level of integration
and knowledgebase along with mastering state-of-the-art
modelling techniques, this position will see you
construct, analyse and validate complex biological
networks.
The person Applicants should possess a PhD in
Computational Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics,
Molecular or Genomic Bioscience, or in other relevant
disciplines. They will have experience with the
mathematical analysis of complex biological networks and
knowledge and skills with pathway analysis tools, genomic
data and gene expression microarray analysis. They should
also be a self starter, team player, and able to use their
own initiative.
Remuneration This is a full-time, fixed term appointment
for three years with the possibility of renewal depending
on funding, at Academic Research Level A or B. The
