The Centre for Statistical and Survey Methodology is a vibrant and growing research centre that
undertakes fundamental and industry focussed research, training and consulting projects involving
statistical methodology. The Centre has 14 academic staff, including four professors, 22 research
students and links with major statistical agencies in Australia and overseas. See cssm.uow.edu.au
We are seeking three experienced statisticians to participate in the further development of the centre.
manager, statistical consulting service

The University’s Statistical Consulting Service (SCS) provides statistical advice and services
concerning the design and analysis of research projects involving academic staff and higher
degree research students. The successful applicant will manage the SCS and provide the majority
of the consulting services. The person will also develop and manage the programme of training
provided by the SCS.

This successful applicant will develop and maintain relationships with external organisations
involving consulting and contract research. The person will also develop and manage the centre’s
programme of training and professional education and undertake some teaching. The successful
applicant will assist in managing the centre and may serve as centre Director in the future.
The person will also undertake research in statistical methodology.
clinical trials and medical research statistician

This position will focus on expanding the centre’s research and consulting in health and medical
research in collaboration with the Illawarra Health & Medical Research Institute, which was recently
established as a partnership between the University and the Area Health Service. The successful
applicant will undertake collaborative research and consulting projects and develop training courses
in statistical methods relevant to health and medical research, particularly in the design and
analysis of clinical and community-based clinical trials. The person will also undertake research in
statistical methodology.
All positions require a PhD and experience in a relevant field of statistics, or equivalent and strong
consulting skills. The Clinical Trials and Deputy Director positions also require research potential.
