Executive Level 1 - $79,277 - $87,204 p.a. (plus superannuation)

As an Executive Level 1 officer in the Analytical Services Branch you will have the opportunity to work in teams involved in analysing and/or modelling ABS and other datasets; developing new arrangements for data access and providing advice on practices, methods and statistical outputs in relation to confidentiality and data access issues; and undertaking research and providing operational support to the ABS in time series analysis.
As an Executive Level 1 officer in the Statistical Services Branch you will contribute to leading in one of the following areas: providing expert advice in the use of sampling or other statistical and survey techniques to clients both within and outside the ABS; planning, conducting and preparing reports on research and empirical studies involving sampling or other statistical techniques; provision of statistical support and training to Methodology and Data Management Division and to clients within and outside the ABS; and developing capabilities for questionnaire design and testing and other data collection techniques.

As an APS Level 5 officer in the Statistical Services Branch you will be required to assist in any of the following areas: providing expert advice in the use of sampling or other statistical and survey techniques to clients both within and outside the ABS; helping plan, conduct and prepare reports on research and empirical studies involving sampling or other statistical techniques; assisting with the provision of mathematical, statistical and time series support and training to Methodology and Data Management Division and to clients within and outside the ABS; and studying developments in sampling, questionnaire design and testing and other statistical techniques in relation to the present and future work of the Branch.
Due to the variety of the ASB roles, people from a range of relevant disciplines are welcome to apply. As the positions are technical in nature, tertiary qualifications (preferably at honours level or above) in fields such as mathematics, statistics, econometrics, social analysis or related disciplines, would be highly desirable. Experience in the application of mathematical statistical techniques in social research will also be an advantage.
Due to the technical nature of the SSB roles, it is highly desirable that applicants possess tertiary qualifications (preferably at honours level or above) in mathematical statistics, mathematical science or applied psychology.
The SSB positions are primarily located in Central Office, Canberra but may also be filled in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart Regional Offices depending on the requirements of each Office. It may not necessarily be that all Methodology Units (MUs) will have places available, it depends on applications and each MUs ability/desire to place people at this level. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Contact Officer to find out which MUs are likely to take on staff. The ASB positions are only available in Central Office, Canberra.
