The Queensland Institute of Medical Research is one of the largest medical research institutes in the southern hemisphere, with programs in areas such as cellular and molecular sciences, epidemiology and population health, human genetics, cancer biology, biotechnology, infectious diseases and vaccine development.
The adjacent Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital (RBWH) is the largest tertiary referral teaching hospital in Queensland with clinical and translational research programs in cancer care, critical care and clinical support, internal medicine, mental health, nursing, oral health, surgical and peri-operative, and women’s and newborn services. Together they established the QIMR/RBWH Statistics Unit of four biostatisticians in 2006 to provide statistical consultancy and collaboration on their medical and public health research projects.
The Statistics Unit is seeking an experienced Biostatistician to provide statistical consultancy and collaborative research to clinicians and researchers at QIMR and RBWH.
The successful applicant will also provide specialist statistical support for at least one area of major application to medical and public health research; provide statistical review for manuscripts and grant applications; provide statistical advice to relevant hospital committees; and perform as an independent statistician.
Applicants should have demonstrated knowledge and experience of statistical techniques and procedures applicable to medical and public health research and will hold an appropriate tertiary level qualification in biostatistics or another quantitative discipline. Good oral and written communication skills, high levels of accuracy with completed work and experience with statistical and data management packages are essential.
Salary range is $67,055 to $74,496 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive salary packaging and superannuation options also apply. This is a full-time appointment for three years with the possibility of review subject to funding availability.
