Applications are invited for a two-year fixed-term postdoctoral research position in Bayesian econometrics/statistics. Successful applicants must either hold a PhD, or anticipate submission of their PhD thesis by mid 2009. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in Markov chain Monte Carlo methods and/or copula modelling; although consideration will be given to all applicants with a background in econometrics or statistics.

The project will be led by Professor Michael Smith of the Melbourne Business School and Dr. Richard Gerlach of the University of Sydney. Both project leaders have extensive experience in Bayesian inferential methodology and its application to a wide range of econometric and statistical models. Biographies of the project leaders can be found at URLs http://works.bepress.com/michael_smith/ and http://www.econ.usyd.edu.au/15561.html . The project will involve a combination of Bayesian methodology, modelling, computational implementation and applied empirical analysis.

While the position is offered in the Discipline of Operations Management and Econometrics at the University of Sydney, it may be possible to locate the successful candidate at the Melbourne Business School upon request. The Discipline of Operations Management and Econometrics is a grouping of specialists in econometrics, statistics, operations management and management science. Its members are engaged in all aspects of analysing data and building models to assist in management decisions in the financial, econometric and operations areas. The discipline has strengths in the areas of financial econometrics; business forecasting; Bayesian econometrics; computationally intensive estimation methodology; supply chain management; scheduling theory and energy markets.

The position is full-time fixed term for two years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees, and the expected starting is July, 2009. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $78,289 - $84,037 (which includes a base salary Level A $66,155 - $71,012 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
