Children's Hospital at Westmead
Biostatistician position [USYD/147500]
The Children's Hospital at Westmead has over 250 researchers from a wide
range of disciplines involved in laboratory, clinical and public health
research and over 70 clinical trials. A major initiative of the Hospital
is to expand its translational research program and establish a clinical
trials support unit. Subsequently, there is an appointment available for
a Biostatistician to play a key role in this development.
This position offers the opportunity the make a significant contribution
to research endeavours focussed on improving health outcomes for
children and adolescents. This initiative is a partnership between the
Faculty of Medicine's School of Public Health and The Children's
Hospital at Westmead Division of Research. The successful applicant will
support research activity based largely at the Hospital, and access a
network of biostatisticians, epidemiologists and public health
researchers, resources and professional development opportunities
through the School of Public Health.
This role will provide statistical support to research teams, including
advice on study design, and conduct individual consultations. The
successful applicant will undertake and guide statistical analyses, as
well as well as teach basic and advanced statistical courses using
statistical software. Furthermore, they will be involved in research
projects, academic activities and postgraduate student supervision, and
contribute to the development of appropriate teaching resources for both
individual and group learning sessions.
The successful applicant will require a PhD or postgraduate
qualifications in statistics, biostatistics or public health (with
demonstrated high level expertise in statistics). Equally important will
be solid expertise in a range of methods, including randomisation and
statistical analysis. Experience in biostatistical analysis and
experience in a range of methodologies and general biostatistical
methods will be essential, as will an ability to liaise with a diverse
range of potential clients. Furthermore, the successful applicant will
possess superior verbal and written communication skills and analytical
problem-solving skills.
The position is full-time fixed term for two years, subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There
is the possibility of further offers of employment, subject to funding
and need. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
condition of employment for new appointees.
Remuneration package Level B: up to $88,465 - $105,052 p.a. pro rata
(which includes a base salary $74,755 - $88,771 p.a., leave loading and
up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
Remuneration package Level C: up to $108,368 - $124,843 p.a. pro rata
(which includes a base salary $91,573 - $105,589 p.a., leave loading and
up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
