Lauren Adcock, 02 March 2009

Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Fellow

University of Sydney

Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Fellow
Psycho-Oncology Co-operative Research Group
The University of Sydney
Reference No. 151317

The Psycho-oncology Co-operative Research Group (PoCoG) was established in 2005, in response to a recognised need to develop the capacity and co-ordinated collaboration to conduct large-scale, multi-centre psycho-oncology and supportive care research. Following the appointment of the Cancer Australia Chair in Cancer Quality of Life in 2008, and a growing research portfolio, PoCoG needs to recruit an experienced and skilled research fellow in quantitative methods and analysis.

The Research Fellow will have responsibility for the planning, design and analysis of quantitative studies and trials in psycho-oncology and specifically in cancer quality of life. It is anticipated that the initial focus for the role will be in cancer quality of life, however, over time, the roles and responsibilities will expand to include broader issues in psycho-oncology. The successful applicant would also be expected to work collaboratively with other PoCoG members and Cooperative Trials Groups to develop new research proposals and protocols, in clinically relevant areas and in cancer quality of life.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will need sound expertise in statistical analysis and database management, along with the ability to manage the analysis of complex data sets for PoCoG research studies and trials. The successful applicant will also be expected to provide expert advice to PoCoG members and to other Cooperative Trials Groups regarding quantitative analysis in psycho-oncology and cancer quality of life research on a regular basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled quantitative researcher to build a career in an applied health setting. There will be significant opportunities to develop new research projects in a collaborative setting and applying for funding to see these projects through to completion.

This position is relevant to researchers with skills in quantitative analysis from disciplines such as statistics, psychology, health and behavioural sciences, public health or other relevant disciplines.

The position is fixed term until 30 June 2010, on a full-time basis, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is the strong possibility of further offers of employment, subject to funding and need.

Remuneration package Research Associate: $78k - 84k p.a. (which includes base salary $66k - 71k, leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).

Remuneration package Research Fellow: $88k - 105k p.a. (which includes base salary $74k - 88k, leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
