Salary Level B: A$84K - A$100K per annum (plus 17% employer superannuation and leave loading)

The Simpson Centre for Health Services Research is part of the South Western Sydney Clinical School and also affiliated to the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, and comes under the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW. The Simpson Centre excels in conducting research into complex health systems and in evaluating the effectiveness of system interventions through rigorous research methodology. The major types of study conducted in The Simpson Centre include rapid systematic review of evidence based health decision making, cluster randomised controlled trials, large population based linkage study and the best quality longitudinal studies. The research conducted within The Simpson Centre is mostly policy oriented with a strong focus on translating research results into practice.

This position will be for a member of a team in conducting an NHMRC funded research project. The project focuses on the evaluation of a statewide innovative patient safety improvement system (i.e. The Between the Flag programme by the Clinical Excellence Commission of NSW) on reducing hospital mortality and other adverse events using a population-based mixed-method approach. The Between the Flag Programme is a world-first initiative in recognising and responding to the deteriorating patients across all NSW hospitals. It will also involve other researches related to patient safety. The study will be conducted on UNSW Kensington campus.

The incumbent will be required to undertake review of existing literature related to the research project, maintain and update the existing literature database. The incumbent would also be required to collect and collate the data set through close collaboration with other Centre staff and researchers involved in the project. The incumbent would also be expected to create and maintain specific databases, organise data and ensure quality control, play significant roles in designing statistical analysis strategy and conducting complex modelling, interpreting data with the team and preparing reports and presentation materials for the study and scientific publications

Applicants should possess a PhD in statistics, public health, epidemiology, health services research or other relevant disciplines. Applicants should also demonstrate significant experience and strong track record in data linkage, statistical modelling, research methodology, health services research and peer-reviewed publications.

This is a fixed term, full-time (35 hours per week) position available for 2 years.
