Biostatistician + SAS Programmer

Research Assistant (Biostatistics) - Ref No 26/07

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research in one of the largest medical research institutes in the southern hemisphere, with programs in areas such as cellular and molecular sciences, epidemiology and population health, human genetics, cancer biology, biotechnology, infectious diseases and vaccine development.

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research and Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital established the QIMR/RBWH Statistics Unit in 2006. The Unit of three biostatisticians provides statistical advice and consultancy on medical and public health research projects conducted by QIMR and RBWH scientists and clinicians.

The Unit has a new full or part-time position available for a research assistant (biostatistics) to assist the biostatisticians with their research and consulting projects in the priority areas of capacity building in biostatistics, chronic disease, emerging infectious disease and biosecurity, and Indigenous health.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and computing skills and will hold an appropriate tertiary level qualification in biostatistics or another quantitative discipline. Good data management skills and familiarity with statistical techniques and procedures applicable to medical and public health research are essential. Candidates must have good oral and written communication skills and high levels of accuracy with completed work.


Research Assistant/ Research Officer (SAS Programmer And Analyst) - Ref No 27/07

A full or part-time position is available up to 31 December 2007 for a SAS programmer to maintain and manipulate the Cancer and Population Studies Group's SAS databases for epidemiological projects related to skin (and other) cancers.

Tertiary qualifications in biostatistics or another quantitative discipline and demonstrated experience with SAS programming and use of SAS for data management and statistical analyses is necessary, as is familiarity with database packages, such as MS Access. Attention to detail and accuracy of documentation and record-keeping is essential. Experience in analysis of case-control studies or in the field of cancer research is desirable.

Salary for both positions will be offered in the range of $44,179-$59,956 per annum full-time equivalent commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive salary packaging and superannuation options also apply. Position 26/07 is for one year and position 27/07 is until 31 December 2007. Both positions have the possibility of review subject to funding availability.
