Exciting research opportunities and a PhD Scholarship of up to $40,000 tax free

Rismark International is a global funds management business specialising in research and the execution of sophisticated real estate investment, securitisation and active portfolio management strategies.

Rismark is offering a full PhD scholarship to a graduate interested in residential or commercial real estate research, with backgrounds in one, or more of:
  • Econometrics
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Engineering, Physics and other mathematical modelling disciplines.

    The scholarship would be tenable at the University of Sydney and the holder would be provided access to a unique property database stored at Rismark International. Established in 2002, Rismark has developed a very successful research program. The company’s research initiatives have been recognised with the granting of eight innovation patents and the award of an Australian Research Council Grant. Rismark has been responsible for the launch of the innovative Equity Finance Mortgage and has pioneered the development of a suite of sophisticated residential real estate indices which form the underlying contract of Australia’s residential real estate derivative market, and the development of automated property valuation models.

    Rismark International takes prides in being able to provide an exciting, high calibre, and well resourced research environment. Rismark’s research objectives include creating a better understanding of property markets and facilitating the provision of advances in the efficiency of property markets. Applications for PhD scholarships are currently being invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic post-graduate students. Applicants require a quantitative background and an interest in pursuing research questions in the area of residential or commercial property, including:
  • Automated property valuation models and tools
  • Index construction
  • Derivative pricing
  • Credit risk modelling
  • Portfolio modelling and construction.

    Successful candidates will be interested in applying innovative analytical approaches to complex problems in the areas of residential real estate. They will have a strong background in statistics, mathematics, physics, mathematical finance, engineering or related mathematical disciplines. As a minimum, candidates will have a 1st class honours degree in one of the disciplines above, or a Masters degree with a major research component.

    Subject to satisfactory performance, scholarships are tenable for up to three years commencing in March 2008. Scholarships of up to $40,000 pa will be offered. The scholarship is tax free. Closing date for all applications is January 15, 2008.
