The Department
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) provides the Government with policy and planning advice for the delivery of education and early childhood services. DEECD is instrumental in fulfilling the Government's targets for education and early years services in Victoria. The Department's vision is an assured future for all Victorians and a prosperous society through learning and development. Work Area
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) is a statutory authority reporting directly to the Victorian Minister for Education through the VCAA Board. VCAA develops high quality curriculum and assessment programs for all students in Victoria. VCAA assess student learning, monitors student achievement and conducts research leading to innovative educational programs. Senior Secondary programs are the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). In Years Prep to 10 VCAA provides the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and the Achievement Improvement Monitor (AIM). VCAA celebrates student achievement through excellence and awards programs.

    Accountabilitiesv
    1. Collect, analyse and report on qualitative and quantitative data relating to curriculum, assessment and other functions of VCAA for both Senior Secondary and Prep to Year 10.

    2. Provide high-level advice on major research and evaluation issues to the manager of the Data Analysis, Measurement and Reporting Unit for use by the VCAA executive and other internal/external clients.

    3. Participate in projects conducted in collaboration within internal VCAA units and cross-departmental working parties to investigate and evaluate educational processes and outcomes of primary and secondary education.

    4. Liaise with units of the VCAA, the education and training sectors, relevant researchers, planners and policy-makers in relation to educational research and measurement issues.

    5. Conduct professional development for school staff in the use of summary VCE student outcome information and provide matter expert advice.

    2.1. Well developed skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis, preferably with experience in educational research and/or measurement.

    2.2. High level skills and knowledge of statistical and data analysis.

    2.3. High level skills and extensive experience in data analysis software packages, in particular in working with large databases.

    2.4. High level problem-solving skills.

    2.5. High level oral and written communication skills, with a proven record of compiling reports on the outcome of analysis.

    2.6. High level inter-personal communication skills, with a proven record of being able to work in a team and communicate with a wide range of clients.

    2.7. High level understanding of Victorian curriculum and assessment policies and requirements for confidentiality and probity when dealing with data.
