Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is the largest cancer research group in Australia, uniquely integrating basic, translational and clinical research with patient care in the setting of a specialist cancer hospital. Peter Mac provides leadership in a wide range of external cooperative groups that coordinate trial activity at national and international levels. As Australia’s leading cancer research centre, Peter Mac is exceptionally well-placed to translate research findings into clinical practice.
Peter Mac is seeking an established researcher to consolidate, lead and develop their Bioinformatics Core Facility within the Centre for Cancer Genomics and Predictive Medicine. The core provides support to researchers utilising state-of-the-art genome-wide molecular profiling technologies to generate insights into human cancer biology. Researchers receive funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defence (US), and the Association for Imperial Cancer Research (UK). Peter Mac researchers regularly publish in journals of the highest impact, including Nature, Nature Genetics, and Cancer Cell.
This position will be critical in formulating the strategies to enable the growth of the Bioinformatics Core Facility to support the growing need for computational biology in the entire research division. You will be encouraged to develop integrated statistical models of the functional genomic profiles for multiple large cohorts of clinical studies. You will also manage and provide guidance to four full time analysts who are actively involved in research projects.
Requirements:
A PhD with several years experience specialising in applied data analysis in the life sciences
Demonstrable accomplishments in bioinformatics, biology, and/or statistics are essential.
A strong background in multivariate and Bayesian statistics with some experience with Machine Learning Techniques.
