The School of Public Health, a core unit within the Faculty of Medicine, is a network of academics, research groups and centres that facilitates the study of Public Health. The School is currently seeking to appoint a highly-motivated biostatistician to contribute to the Screening and Test Evaluation Program (STEP). STEP is an NHMRC-supported program of research in screening and diagnostic test evaluation. It comprises a multidisciplinary team who have expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics and psychology and covers both methodological and applied research studies.

In this position, the appointee will work with a team of biostatisticians to provide advice and statistical support to researchers and research students concerning the design and statistical methodologies applicable to current and future STEP studies. This will involve collaboration in research on the evaluation of medical tests used for screening, diagnosis and monitoring, and therefore the capacity to work both autonomously and as part of a dynamic team will be paramount.

To succeed in this role, the appointee will have strong knowledge of statistical/ biostatistical methodology and experience in applying these methods. A postgraduate degree in statistics or biostatistics will be essential, as will excellent data analysis skills and an interest in methods for the evaluation of diagnostic and screening tests. Strong statistical computing skills in SAS or equivalent software will be highly advantageous.

Well-suited to this appointment is a quick learner who can input creative ideas and demonstrate the potential to develop and drive independent research projects in the future. The position is full-time fixed term until December 2010, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $86,731 - $102,993 p.a. (which includes a base salary Lecturer Level B $73,289 - $87,030 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation). Please check that these are still current
