JOINT POSITION
QUEENSLAND EYE INSTITUTE and SCHOOL OF POPULATION HEALTH

Provide academic leadership in research activities in health and diseases of the eye and contribute to teaching in epidemiology and population health research methods.

The Queensland Eye Institute (QEI) is the only academic eye institute in Queensland. It was established by the Prevent Blindness Foundation, a Brisbane charity, to achieve its mission of preventing blindness and saving sight. As a major research, academic and clinical facility, QEI conducts both clinical and laboratory based research, provides clinical eye care, educates eye health care providers, and promotes awareness of eye health in the community.

The School of Population Health was established in January 2001 by amalgamating the University of Queensland’s programs in Tropical Health, Community Nutrition and Indigenous Health, with the former Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. The School is one of seven within the Faculty of Health Sciences, which is led by Professor Peter Brooks as Executive Dean.

The Role: The successful applicant will be expected to undertake research and support research in health and diseases of the eye and teaching in epidemiology and population health research methods. The position is full time and shared between QEI and University of Queensland. It is envisaged that the successful applicant will be based initially at the School of Population Health 4 days a week and 1 day a week at QEI.

The Person: The successful applicant should possess PhD or equivalent in an area of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and or related field. The successful applicant should have demonstrated knowledge of epidemiological theory and practice, as well as a demonstrated capability in Biostatistics.

Remuneration: A salary package consisting of a base salary between $68,239 - $96,387 plus employer superannuation contribution of 9%. Salary packaging benefits are also available. Level of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications, experience and academic achievements. The contract is for 5 years.
