Statistician or Biometrician

A position for a statistician or biometrician is available at the University
of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia. Closing Date: Monday, 31 March 2008.
Applications are invited for appointment to this position, which will be
offered on a full-time fixed-term basis, commencing in May 2008 for a period
of 5 years and will be located at the New Town Laboratories in Hobart,
Tasmania.
With support from Biosecurity and Product Integrity Division of DPIW, TIAR is
seeking to appoint a Biometrician to supply services to both TIAR and DPIW
(BPID). The position will provide biometric services to professional,
academic, technical staff and students involved in TIAR research and
development and scientific and technical staff involved in research,
biosecurity and food safety risk analysis and survey and surveillance design
in DPIWE (BPID).
TIAR is a joint venture between the Tasmanian Department of Primary
Industries, Water and Environment and the University of Tasmania in
collaboration with Tasmanian agricultural industries. TIAR is located within
the University of Tasmania with research centres at Burnie, Launceston, Sandy
Bay and New Town. Roles of Biosecurity and Product Integrity Division of DPIW
or relevance to these positions are diagnostic research on Devil Facial
Tumour Disease (DFTD), developing and implementing scientific risk based
systems to ensure the exclusion, eradication or effective management of pests
and diseases that jeopardise the relative pest and disease free status of
Tasmania and increase quarantine surveillance and monitoring arrangements.
The appointee to this position will work closely with the senior Biometrician,
and have similar roles and responsibilities but with greater supervision and
less independence of operation, at least initially.
Applicants must have tertiary qualifications in agricultural science or
related discipline, majoring in biometrics or tertiary qualifications in
another discipline majoring in mathematics or statistics.
Academic Level A will have a total remuneration package of up to $73,648 per
annum (comprising salary within the range $47,118 - $62,947 per annum plus
17% superannuation), with the option of an additional 3% salary loading in
exchange for 14% instead of 17% superannuation. Academic Level B will have a
total remuneration package of up to $91,206 per annum (comprising salary
within the range $66,113 - $77,954 per annum plus 17% superannuation) with
the option of an additional 3% salary loading in exchange for 14% instead of
17% superannuation.
