The Save Sight Institute (SSI) is a major centre for eye research in Sydney. Located
within the Sydney Eye Hospital, it is dedicated to undertaking comprehensive vision
research to solve unanswered problems in diagnosis and sight restoration. The Fight
Retinal Blindness! Project is a collaborative initiative between the Save Sight
Institute, Sydney; Centre for Eye Research Australia, Melbourne; and Lions Eye
Institute, Perth and will also involve private ophthalmology practices.
The Fight Retinal Blindness! project is a national initiative aimed at using
advances in information technology to track and evaluate the clinical effectiveness,
cost effectiveness and safety of the emerging therapies for treatment of retinal
diseases in Australia. Initially focusing on Age related Macular Degeneration, the
most common cause of untreatable blindness in Australians, the same research
approach will then be used to study other retinal diseases. The overall goal is to
develop strategies to reduce the incidence of retinal blindness in the Australian
community.
There is a unique opportunity available for a results-driven and passionate
Scientific Manager to join the Fight Retinal Blindness! Project.
The successful candidate will manage the scientific, statistical and analytical
aspects of the project to ensure achievement of project outcomes and, together with
Professor Gillies and the Project Manager, will develop a Quality Management
(Accreditation) and Performance Benchmarking Program for practices participating in
the project.
To be considered for this role you will have completed a degree in statistics,
biostatistics, health information management, science or a related field or have
equivalent relevant experience or qualifications; experience with database query
writing and reporting; experience in statistical analysis of health research
projects and relevant software; and experience writing complex analytical reports
and papers.
The position is full-time fixed term 12 months initially, with good prospects for
renewal subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new
appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition
of employment for new appointees.
Level of appointment and responsibility will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
Remuneration package: $71,196 - $76,788 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level 6
$60,161 - $64,887 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to
superannuation).
Remuneration package: $78,188 - $85,181 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level 7
$66,070 - $71,979 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to
superannuation).
Remuneration package: up to $89,265 - $100,671 p.a. pro rata (which includes a base
salary Level 8 $75,430 - $85,069 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's
contribution to superannuation).
