The Save Sight Institute (SSI) is a major centre for eye research in Sydney. Located within the Sydney Eye Hospital, it is dedicated to undertaking comprehensive vision research to solve unanswered problems in diagnosis and sight restoration. The Fight Retinal Blindness! Project is a collaborative initiative between the Save Sight Institute, Sydney; Centre for Eye Research Australia, Melbourne; and Lions Eye Institute, Perth and will also involve private ophthalmology practices.

The Fight Retinal Blindness! project is a national initiative aimed at using advances in information technology to track and evaluate the clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and safety of the emerging therapies for treatment of retinal diseases in Australia. Initially focusing on Age related Macular Degeneration, the most common cause of untreatable blindness in Australians, the same research approach will then be used to study other retinal diseases. The overall goal is to develop strategies to reduce the incidence of retinal blindness in the Australian community.

There is a unique opportunity available for a results-driven and passionate Scientific Manager to join the Fight Retinal Blindness! Project.
