Project Manager-Geographical Information Analysis

Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control (VCRCC)

This is a great opportunity for you to be part of a dynamic team of researchers from diverse backgrounds including epidemiology, biostatistics and psychology in one of the most successful cancer control organisations in Australia.

The Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control (VCRCC) is dedicated to supporting and conducting research into cancer surveillance, cancer causation, prevention, screening and early detection and the clinical and psychosocial outcomes from cancer. Cancer Council Queensland also manages the Queensland Cancer Registry, a population register with 25 years of cancer incidence and mortality data. All programs work in concert as part of an integrated approach to cancer control based on surveillance, research and evidence-based interventions. The VCRCC holds a number of competitively funded grants from NHMRC and Cancer Australia and has developed strong collaborative links with university-based researchers.

As the Project Manager in Geographical Information Analysis you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of geographically-enabled datasets to assist research into geographical inequalities in cancer outcomes. You will also assist with conducting statistical analysis and reporting of these data under the direction of the Senior Biostatistician, and contribute to ethics applications and literature reviews when required.

With tertiary qualifications in epidemiology, public health or a related discipline, preferably with a formal statistical component, you will have demonstrated high order skills in statistical programming, data manipulation and management and an aptitude to use geographically-enabled data and relevant GIS software. A demonstrated high level of written and analytical communication skills, along with strong experience using statistical analysis packages such as Stata or SAS is essential for this role.

Working with other research staff, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to make a major contribution to our understanding of why there are inequalities in cancer outcomes by geographical location. This is an ongoing position and an initial two year contract will be offered. An attractive salary package will be negotiated commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Cancer Council Queensland is a growing community-based organisation offering staff flexible work arrangements, the ability to salary package and a supportive team environment where work/life balance is highly valued.
