At the ABS you will be working in teams or as an individual. You will have practical on-the-job training and a flexible individual development plan which may include:

    The ABS Graduate Development Program

    Each year, the ABS seeks to employ highly skilled graduates in Canberra and around Australia, who are passionate about contributing to the future shape of our nation through enabling informed decision-making. We offer exciting and challenging careers to successful applicants from a wide range of degrees and specialisations. The ABS employs graduates across all areas of the organisation. Relevant degrees include:

    Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Econometrics, Information Technology, Accounting, Business, Commerce, Communication, Demography, Finance, Geography, Human Resources, Humanities, Information Management, Management, Psychology, Social Science.

    Cadetship Program

    The ABS also offers a Cadetship Program aimed at students who plan to undertake a fourth year of study at the Honours level in mathematical statistics or econometrics. This program provides an opportunity for exceptional students to gain valuable experience and apply what they have learnt to practical and challenging work situations. Successful applicants will be paid a salary while they continue to earn their degree, and will also receive a text book allowance and have student and HECS fees fully paid. Cadets will be involved in a four week paid work experience program prior to commencing Honours. Most importantly, after graduation, Cadets will start their career with the ABS by joining the Graduate Program within the Methodology and Data Management Division in Canberra.

    Vacation Opportunities

    The ABS also offers a number of paid vacation opportunities in the Technology Services Division and the Methodology and Data Management Division. Vacation work at the ABS provides a fantastic opportunity to gain relevant experience and apply the skills learnt at University..
