Bioinformatics Analyst

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is the largest cancer research group in Australia, uniquely integrating basic, translational and clinical research with patient care in the setting of a specialist cancer hospital.     Peter Mac’s Research Division is currently seeking a Bioinformatician to support the analysis of high throughput genomic datasets including those generated via Next Generation DNA Sequencing and DNA microarrays. As a strong communicator and team player, you will be involved in the analysis, visualisation and reporting of genomic datasets. You will work alongside other bioinformaticians and with various research groups on a number of different projects. These may include SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and copy number analysis, gene expressions analysis, ChIP-seq, genome resequencing and amplicon sequencing. You will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of several communal workstations.

    Excellent computer programming skills and the ability to effectively scrutinise data are essential. Knowledge of bioinformatics and/or biostatistics is desirable. Qualifications and experience in relevant disciplines would be desirable but not essential. Knowledge of Linux/Unix, Perl, R and Python will be highly regarded together with experience in biology, biomedical sciences or related disciplines.

    This position is available for one year in the first instance, with a view to a permanent placement.
