Infectious Disease Transmission Dynamics
Attractive Salary Packaging & Superannuation Options
QIMR is one of Australia's largest and most successful medical research institutes. We investigate the genetic and environmental causes of more than 40 diseases, and are developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies to promote health and well being for all people.
The Molecular Parasitology Laboratory researches the biology and epidemiology of parasitic worms of humans and works on developing new interventions and diagnostic procedures that will lead to their elimination.
This position offers the opportunity to develop an echinococcosis transmission dynamics mathematical model. Use the model to assess the impact of environmental change on transmission and disease burden; and integrated control strategies on infection. Opportunities exist for modelling other parasitic infections as part of a multidisciplinary team at QIMR and University of Queensland. Travel to China may be required.
Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as epidemiology, mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, computer science or population biology. Proven experience of mathematical modelling is required. Experience modelling infectious diseases is desirable and knowledge of echinococcosis epidemiology or parasitology is an advantage but not essential. Applicants should be motivated, well organised and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Salary range is $64,649 - $69,398 per annum plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits. This is a full-time appointment for two years with the possibility for extension subject to funding availability.
