Salary Level A: A$72,675 - A$77,733 per year, plus 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading.

Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow position with Program 1A of the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training, based at the University of New South Wales (Kensington campus). The successful applicant will be expected to undertake research that will improve our ability to quantify and manage groundwater, by developing methods to characterise alluvial aquifers that will advance the way we interpret integrated climatic, geophysical and hydrogeological data sets using geostatistical and numerical methods.

The main duties associated with the position are:

1. Using sparse borehole and low resolution geophysical data to estimate the sediment type throughout palaeovalleys used for groundwater supply using multiple-point statistics, transition probability, cellular automata, multifractal or Bayesian data integration methods;
2. Assessing the impact of the uncertainty in the facies models, on catchment water balance model parameter sensitivity and sustainable yield uncertainty quantification;
3. Validating the new algorithms using data from selected case study sites;
4. Assisting postgraduate and undergraduate students; and
5. Occasionally contributing to the teaching program within the earth sciences.

To be successful in this position you must have strong mathematical and computational skills and demonstrate your ability in scripting and programming in Mathematical, Matlab, Fortran or C.

This is a full time position, fixed term for 2 years.

Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their application.
