Senior Bioinformatician

The New Zealand Bioinformatics Institute at the University of Auckland (BI) is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician. The successful applicant will help lead a team of bioinformatics consultants responsible for bioinformatics projects, including projects generated through work with New Zealand Genomics Limited (NZGL), as well as carrying out duties as a Bioinformatics Consultant. The Senior Bioinformatician will work closely with internal researchers within the University of Auckland and external client researchers in related disciplines.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or related field, or an advanced degree with extensive relevant experience. They will have strong evidence of commitment to and understanding of biological/biomedical research, ideally a track record of peer-reviewed publications in which their bioinformatics skills have been applied to biological or biomedical problems. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in:
next generation sequence data analysis, the delivery of bioinformatics education programs, and the development, support or marketing of bioinformatics resources. There is also an expectation that this position may require travel within New Zealand.

Preferences will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following criteria:
- Development and/or management of a well-known successful bioinformatics tools and web resources.
- Extensive knowledge of molecular biology.
- Extensive use and knowledge of multiple bioinformatics applications and resources.
- Familiarity with metagenomic analysis, metabolomics, proteomics or transcriptomics.

Due to funding allocations, this is a 3 year limited term appointment. It is expected that there will be the opportunity for the successful applicant to contribute to university courses in bioinformatics and genomics as appropriate and to spend up to 20% of his/her time developing an independent research programme.
