Biostatisticians

The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research

The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research (TICHR) is a multi-disciplinary research centre affiliated with University of Western Australia, Curtin and other Western Australian (WA) universities. It aims to conduct research, influence policy and train PhD and other students in a range of scientific areas including the most important health issues experienced by WA young people.

TICHR is seeking a number of full-time/part-time Biostatisticians to undertake statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex epidemiological, clinical, biological and genetic data. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with leading bio-technologies on studies including genome wide association studies, next-generation sequencing, gene expression microarrays, and epigenetics, in addition to large scale population-based clinical and epidemiological studies. They will be an integral part of the community of statistical expertise at TICHR, and will work closely with one or more established and internationally recognized research groups, including epidemiologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and other biological scientists.

The positions offer exciting opportunities for highly motivated people to make vital contributions to important improvements in infant, child and youth health and wellbeing. While primarily working in supporting and advisory roles, there will be opportunities for successful candidates to develop their own lines of research within TICHR aims. The successful candidates will also be required to contribute to the preparation of research publications and research proposals for submission to external bodies, and will need to be able to communicate effectively with senior biological scientists about analysis strategies and results.

It is essential that applicants have tertiary qualifications involving statistical data analysis and experience with one or more statistical software packages (e.g. R, STATA, SAS, S-Plus, SPSS) for manipulation and analysis of data. Past experience in epidemiological or genetic research with hands-on experience in the analysis of large linked data sets, longitudinal cohort data, microarray, sequence, or other genetic data, will be highly regarded, although some training may be provided where necessary.

For further information, please contact Professor Nick de Klerk on 08 9489 7735 or e-mail nickdk@ichr.uwa.edu.au.

The level of appointment will be within the Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow range and will depend on qualifications, skills, and experience. Generous salary packaging and superannuation benefits also apply. The appointments are for a period of one year initially, with a view to a longer term.

Intending applicants should obtain a Job Description and Selection Criteria from the web site, http://www.childhealthresearch.com.au. Applications should include a statement addressing the selection criteria, proof of academic qualifications, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact details of two referees, and be forwarded to: Julia Emmerson, Human Resources Manager, on juliae@ichr.uwa.edu.au

The closing date for receipt of applications is August 1.
