BACKGROUND
Within the Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP) Medical Genomics Facility, the ACRF
Centre for Cancer Genomic Medicine provides a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) service.
The MHTP is a partnership between Monash Institute of Medical Research (MIMR), Prince
Henry's Institute (PHI), Southern Health and Monash University, at Monash Medical Centre,
Clayton (http://www.mhtp.org.au/). The Precinct unites the largest health care service provider
in Victoria with leading Australian medical research institutes and University departments.
Among the 600+ biomedical researchers on site, there are established programs in cancer
research, inflammation and infectious diseases, neurosciences, men’s health, women’s health,
cardiovascular disease, endocrinology and paediatrics. The Centre was established following
funding from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and is focused on facilitating
innovative and world-leading research using state-of-the-art NGS technologies that will
translate to clinical applications. Initially, the facility has introduced Life Technologies SOLiD
5500xl and Ion Torrent platforms.
We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic bioinformatician to work with researchers on the
design, implementation and interpretation of genomics based projects using NGS technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will use advanced bioinformatic and computational expertise to provide
bioinformatic advice and support to clients using the Centre. The Centre will provide a NGS
service to cancer researchers and clinicians.
There will also be the possibility for the successful candidate to develop their own genomics
research program dependent upon funding opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated and highly motivated individual with a PhD in
computational biology with relevant experience and/or training in genomics. Programming
experience using BioPerl and JAVA are expected. The position would be initially for one year
and renewable subject to performance. An attractive salary is available based upon the level of
