Peter Wills Bioinformatics Centre

The Garvan Institute is one of Australia's leading medical research institutions with approximately 500 scientists, students and support staff working in research programs in Cancer, Diabetes & Obesity, Immunology & Inflammation, Osteoporosis, and Neuroscience.

The Peter Wills Bioinformatics Centre (PWBC) was established in August 2001 and is the core bioinformatics facility at the Garvan. The PWBC is responsible for building and maintaining the bioinformatics infrastructure at the Garvan, training, and collaborating with lab heads from all disciplines within the Garvan. Its current areas of focus include the analysis of microarray, proteomic and high throughput sequencing data, utilising both commercial, and novel software, as well as the archiving of data from various high throughput technologies.

This position will assist in supporting the service and research activities of the PWBC.

Applicants should have a postgraduate Bioinformatics or related degree with two years work experience. A strong knowledge of biology together with programming skills in R, Python and Unix tools are required. Experience in SQL and Java are an advantage. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, and experience in popular genomics resources and bioinformatics tools.

The position is a full time fixed term appointment for one (1) year with renewal subject to funding. The remuneration package will be in the range of $50,000 - $60,000 per annum.
