    Medical Deans is the peak representative body of medical education, clinical training and medical research in the 20 Australian and New Zealand universities with medical schools. Although a separate organisation to the University, staff at Medical Deans are employees of the University of Sydney and consequentially enjoy all applicable employment terms and conditions. Medical Deans hosts a number of projects including the Medical Schools Outcomes Database and Longitudinal Tracking (MSOD) Project.

    We are seeking to appoint a Data and Research Support Manager to take overall responsibility for the MSOD Project data sets to ensure the ongoing quality and integrity of the data; including management of databases and production of reports and to conduct research analysis.

    Furthermore, you will be required to:
  • analyse datasets using sophisticated statistical techniques and foster collaborative research activities
  • oversee the on-going development, management and implementation of the national database
  • liaise with external IT consultants
  • manage the operation of the Contacts Database and Data Dictionary
  • manage processes relating to access to data
  • work collaboratively with the Research Assistant/s and the project's team and committees
  • assist with data interpretation
  • provide high level support for the project's Research & Scientific Advisory Committee, including strategic advice and recommendations.

    To succeed in this role, you need to demonstrate:
  • advanced understanding of statistical principles and methods, specifically multivariable and variable analyses
  • proficiency in the use of SPSS (including syntax), SAS or STATA for data manipulation and macros
  • proficiency in data and database management
  • good organisational skills, including proven ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines
  • high level oral and written communication skills
  • capacity for independent decision making and initiative
  • proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and on committees
  • a strong interest in applied policy relevant research
  • a degree in Information Technology, Statistics or related field with a statistics component and a combination of relevant experience and/or education/ training.

    Remuneration package: University of Sydney Level 7 or Assoc. Lecturer (Level A) (Individuals already working in an academic position may be considered for appointment as an Academic Level A).
