A one year fixed term position (with the possibility of renewal for another year) is now available with the AgResearch Bioinformatics & Statistics group in New Zealand.

AgResearch is New Zealand's largest Crown Research Institute and its core purpose is to enhance the value, productivity and profitability of New Zealand's pastoral, agri-food and agri-technology sector value chains to contribute to economic growth and beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand. AgResearch Bioinformatics & Statistics Group focuses on application of statistics, mathematics, computer science and information processing to develop experimental protocols, analyse and interpret data, and predict responses of biological systems.

The incumbent will be involved in everything from the analysis of high-throughput genomic and gene expression data to the design, development, implementation and testing of bioinformatics tools and pipelines. Successful applicant will have a postgraduate Bioinformatics or related qualification with three years of work experience and should have strong interpersonal, time management and relationship building skills. A thorough knowledge of Unix, scripting language (Perl/Python) and Bioinformatics tools is required. This is a highly collaborative role, where the incumbent will be working with Scientists on a regular basis thus requiring a good knowledge of genetics and molecular biology.

The position is initially at AgResearch Grasslands campus in Palmerston North, however there is a possibility that it may be relocated to Invermay campus in Mosgiel depending on the Bioinformatics consultancy needs.
