The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) is a research bureau within the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). ABARES provides professionally independent, world-class research, analysis and advice to inform decision-makers on current and future policy challenges affecting Australia's primary industries.

We have a challenging opportunity for an experienced senior statistician to contribute to the leadership of the Quantitative Sciences Section. You would have a strong scientific reputation, demonstrated experience in developing and leading projects, highly effective communication skills and be able to effectively work closely with policy clients, as well as industry, CSIRO and other research providers.

Key tasks for this role are:

1. Provide specialist expertise in statistics and statistical analysis to support policy development by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Departmental policy makers.
2. Lead, manage, work in and motivate high-performing scientific teams in a diverse and complex environment.
3. Develop and manage client relationships, business opportunities, and build partnerships with other research providers.
4. Contribute to the development of the strategic direction, governance and business outcomes of the Fisheries & Quantitative Sciences Branch and ABARES.
5. Provide scientific support, guidance and mentoring to other members of the Branch, and assist in enhancing the scientific standing of the Bureau.
