    The position:
    CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences are seeking a research scientist to provide bioinformatics input to a multicentre team working to develop methods to integrate multiple different next-generation sequencing (NGS) datasets from matched tissue samples. The complexity and size of the datasets generated will require careful management to ensure that all data is properly validated and that all participants are working on the best version of the data. The appointee will have a role in maintaining the integrity of the data and analysis results from this study.

    Specifically you will:
  • Create test datasets using simulation and identify and obtain appropriate online databases for method validation
  • Apply the methods for integrated data analysis to the project dataset
  • Participate in internal communication of developments through a Wiki page with regular (monthly) postings of progress and an internal CSIRO workshop
  • Undertake 6 weeks training during the first 6 months of this project at a major international laboratory in this emerging field as part of development of a strategic alliance

    Salary: $86K - $93K p.a. plus up to 15.4% Superannuation

    To be successful you will need:
  • A PhD and/or equivalent in statistics, computer science, bioinformatics or a related field, and documented research in a relevant discipline area
  • Demonstrated conceptual and practical knowledge and skills in analysis of biological data from high throughput biological data collection platforms, including the analysis of short-read sequence data
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, negotiation & representational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team
