Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Researcher

An exciting opportunity exists for a computational scientist to join the Bioinformatics division. Working with Dr Tony Papenfuss, the position will involve analysis of cancer genomic, transcriptomic and methylomic data from next generation sequencing platforms and the development of new computational methods and analysis software.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in mathematics, statistics, physics, computing or biology. Applicants with a masters or honours degree may also apply. Experience in programming and a keen interest in biology are required. Some familiarity with next generation sequencing would be preferred. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. Applicants are expected to communicate frequently with biomedical and clinical collaborators and must be highly motivated by biomedical problems.
The position is for two years in the first instance with opportunities for renewal. The appointment level and salary are dependent on qualifications and previous experience. Up to 17% superannuation and generous salary packaging options are available. Overseas applicants are welcome to apply.
