SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER (Biostatistics) School of Public Health, Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) REFERENCE NO. 2036/1111

  • Must have advanced skills in biostatistical analyses
  • Full-time fixed term 12 months
  • Remuneration package: $103,518 - $116,745 p.a.

    The Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) is a conjoint, academic unit of the University of Sydney and Sydney South West Area Health Service. SOuRCe undertakes a broad program of research that focuses on improving outcomes, including quality of life outcomes, for patients who have surgery. SOuRCe undertakes multidisciplinary, collaborative research that brings together researchers with backgrounds in clinical medicine, health services research, epidemiology, medical psychology and health economics.

    We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Officer to Undertake statistical analyses of complex study datasets, including randomised trials and longitudinal studies.

    As the Senior Research Officer you will:

  • undertake statistical analyses of longitudinal quality of life data
  • participate in the design of new studies
  • provide expert statistical advice
  • develop policy and procedures relating to data collection processes
  • contribute to database design
  • contribute to staff training in this field
  • contribute to research publications, presentations and grant applications.

    To be successful you will demonstrate:

  • completion or nearing completion of postgraduate degree in statistics or biostatistics; or postgraduate degree in public health/epidemiology with successful completion of advanced units of study in statistics/biostatistics; or equivalent
  • advanced skills in biostatistical analyses, eg use of multiple regression and logistic regression techniques, survival analysis, generalised linear mixed models (GLMMs), general estimating equations (GEEs), multilevel models, time series analysis
  • extensive experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, STATA
  • experience in processing complex data sets
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Desirable:

  • authorship of peer reviewed publications
  • experience in development of policy and procedures in relation to data management and statistical analyses
  • experience in liaising with health professionals and non-statistician researchers
  • experience in providing statistical advice and training for junior researchers and /or students.

    Remuneration package: $103,518 - $116,745 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level 8 $87,474 - $98,651 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation). To be considered for this position it is essential that you address the online selection criteria.
