Statistics Jobs in Australia: 2012 January - March

Dr Vanessa Venturi, 27 January 2012

PhD Scholarship (Bioinformatics)

The University of New South Wales

The Computational Biology Group at the University of New South Wales, Sydney seeks a student to work on a PhD research project in the area of bioinformatics / computational immunology. An Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarship supplement of $10,000 per annum is available. In exceptional circumstances, a full scholarship may be offered without an APA.

The health, social, and economic impact of infectious diseases on the Australian and global populations is enormous. A major obstacle to the development of treatments for and vaccines against some infections is that we have a poor understanding of how the immune system responds to these infections. The successful applicant will join a team of researchers in the Computational Biology Group that use bioinformatics, computational, mathematical, and statistical approaches to study various aspects of the immune system and immune responses to a variety of infections. This research is in collaboration with experimental research groups both in Australia and overseas.

Additional information about the research interests of the Computational Biology Group is available at: http://www.cvr.net.au/CVRWeb.nsf/page/cbg

The successful applicant will have an honours or masters degree in a quantitative science discipline such as bioinformatics, computing science, mathematics, statistics, or physics.

Closing date for applications is 2 March 2012 for commencement in Semester 2 of 2012.

Interested applicants should contact Dr Vanessa Venturi, v.venturi@unsw.edu.au (02 9385 8234).
