School of Medicine

The School of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education and medical research in Queensland, with the country's largest medical degree program. The program includes graduate entry and school-leaver entry streams, and is integrated, case-based/problem based learning program. The School is a diverse enterprise operating over multiple sites, with Queensland Health and private health service providers in major partners. Geographically, the School extends throughout Queensland with major sites in Brisbane, the outer metropolitan areas, and a number of rural and remote area facilities throughout the rest of the state. The UQ medical degree is also delivered on the UQ Ipswich campus to the west of Brisbane, and we are also scoping expansion on the Sunshine Coast.

The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN) is a coordinating centre for multi-centre clinical trials in kidney disease research. The AKTN is a unit within the School of Medicine, The University of Queensland (UQ), funded by competitive research grants. While the appointee will be a UQ employee, he/she will work at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba, alongside AKTN data management and clinical trial operations staff.

The role

The Biostatistician has primary responsibility for statistical programming in preparation for meetings of Data Safety and Monitoring Boards. Other duties include, generating and maintaining randomisation schedules, performing sample size calculations, working with data management and trial monitoring staff in data quality assurance and quality control activities. This position plays a key role in writing and revising standard operating procedures and work instructions for statistical processes of the AKTN. The successful appointee will also contribute to methodological research relevant to the design and analysis of clinical trials and assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and conference presentations.

The person

Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in statistics/biostatistics or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training. Knowledge of statistical design and analysis of experiments/clinical trials, strong SAS programming skills or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such skills is key. Experience in statistical analysis of research data, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as work effectively in a team environment are essential for this role. Remuneration

This is a full time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 7 for 12months. The remuneration package will be in the range: $70,969.50 - $77,621.94 p.a. FTE, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9% (total package will be in the range $77,356.76 - $84,607.91 p.a. FTE).
