DUTY STATEMENT

Purpose of Position
The postdoctoral research fellow will assist in a project funded by the Australia Research Council (ARC) to examine the impact of climate change on infectious diseases and its implications for public health policy. The appointee should have a background in statistics, epidemiology or public health. The position will contribute towards research collaboration, evidence-based decision making and funding acquisition.

Organisational Relationships
This position holds membership with QUT's largest interdisciplinary research institute, the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI).

Duties include:
  • Performing comprehensive literature reviews in the field
  • Manage large scale epidemiological and statistical data
  • Use spatio-temporal modelling and other statistical analysis
  • Effectively liaise with contacts within government departments and industry
  • Contribute to the writing of project reports and the preparation and publishing of research outcomes in peer-reviewed journals
  • Maintain complete and accurate research records to allow regular written and verbal reporting to the team leader
  • Preparation of grant applications to support further research in the area
  • Present research findings at major scientific meetings
  • Work within a multidisciplinary research team, providing guidance to postgraduate students if required.
  • Participate in and present lectures and seminars when required

    SELECTION CRITERIA
    Essential:
  • Completion of a PhD in epidemiological modelling, mathematics/statistics, or a similar analytical field.
  • Significant knowledge and experience undertaking research in a related/similar position.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing data sets, and undertaking spatio-temporal modelling and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated record of or capacity for published research in relevant areas.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to present research findings at national and international levels.
  • Demonstrated competency with various statistical packages such as SAS, R, S-Plus, Stata and SPSS.

    Desirable:
  • Knowledge and/or experience of infectious diseases and related modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with large scale epidemiological or statistical data.
  • Demonstrated ability to use geographic information systems such as MapInfo and ArcView.
