Data analyst/Senior analyst

The Bureau of Health Information aims to be the leading source of information on the performance of the NSW public health system. The Bureau of Health Information is currently seeking a data analyst and a senior analyst to define and create core content of timely, high quality public reports and web based analytical products on the performance of the NSW public health system.

Both positions will undertake advanced statistical analyses of population-based administrative data and/or survey data and support high level interpretation of those analyses, in order to (a) evaluate performance of the public health system; (b) identify important trends, opportunities for service improvement and potential impact of policy change; and (c) benchmark the performance of the system through comparisons.

Data analyst
Location: Chatswood
Status/Hours: Temporary full time
Salary: $80,640 - $95,646

Selection criteria for data analyst:
  • Relevant graduate and/or post graduate qualification and experience and /or training with SAS or a similar statistical package.
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses, particularly of large datasets, using a range of analytic tools and methodologies.
  • Experience undertaking temporal analyses, as well as interpretation of those analyses.
  • Experience collaborating with others to create information, particularly information that directly informs efforts to improve health care.
  • Knowledge of health care data collections including their strengths and limitations is desirable.
  • Experience developing and validating methods and measures to improve public reporting of health system performance is desirable.
  • Able to prioritise workload, manage time and collaborate with a highly skilled team to deliver a portfolio of projects.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to operate with minimal supervision.

    Senior Analyst
    Location: Chatswood
    Status/Hours: Temporary full time
    Salary: $93,769-$106,897

    Selection criteria for senior analyst:
  • Extensive experience using SAS or a similar statistical package.
  • Extensive experience conducting statistical analyses of population-based administrative and survey data using a range of analytic tools and methodologies.
  • Experience undertaking temporal and case mix adjusted analyses, as well as interpretation of those analyses to describe and compare the performance of health systems.
  • Experience collaborating and negotiating with others to create information that directly informs efforts to improve health care.
  • Excellent knowledge of health care data collections including their strengths and limitations.
  • Highly developed skills in developing and validating methods and measures to improve public reporting of health system performance.
  • Independently prioritise workload, manage time and collaborate with a highly skilled team to deliver a portfolio of projects.
  • Relevant graduate and / or post graduate qualification.
