Position Purpose

The Statistical Epidemiologist is a member of the Research Methods Group (RMG). The RMG offers a package of activities to ensure that research methods support needs of the diversity of IHBI members are met. This package consists of several tested strategies, and RMG staff members rotate through these. All RMG staff are mentored and ultimately fully engaged in all strategies, which are designed towards IHBI members being involved in group discussion and self-sufficiency activities for basic and intermediate, as well as consultations for more complex, issues.
Whilst all Group members are sought out for their generalist consultative strengths, we all have particular areas of expertise or interest, and your epidemiological expertise would see you much sought after for advice by the population health researchers across the Domains. Your epidemiological background also provides you with an understanding of the spectrum of design and analysis issues that would present across the Domains. The aim of the RMG is to develop breadth of experience in our research methodologists through their exposure to the diversity of research here, and through the intellectual interaction afforded by working within the RMG with like-minded generalist team members across a diversity of teaching and support activities.
Hence, this position will suit an experienced epidemiologist with substantial statistical experience (or a highly-experienced consulting medical statistician), who enjoys interaction with colleagues.

  • Demonstrated experience in the successful design and delivery of curriculum for service teaching of research methods to non-statistical audiences.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the fundamental differences in the qualitative and quantitative research paradigms.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of health and safety with a demonstrated ability to incorporate these principles in daily tasks.
