The School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales is the largest of its kind in Australia and is a major centre of research in the mathematical sciences. The School has notable strengths in fundamental research right through to cutting edge applications. Its teaching and research activities are carried out in three departments: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics, with activities ranging across a multitude of areas including applications in finance, medicine and environmental science.

The School seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics and a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Statistics to make significant contributions to teaching and research. To be successful, applicants should have:

Ref 9586 - Pure Mathematics

PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Mathematics

Research track record in number theory, including number theoretic aspects of cryptography, or theoretical computer science

Ref 9587 - Statistics

PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Statistics, Probability and Stochastic Processes, or related areas

Research track record in one or more of the above areas, with emphasis on financial mathematics, or computational statistics with applications to complex modelling

In addition, applicants must also have a strong commitment to independent research and proven skills in research; the ability to teach a wide range of courses offered in the School; the ability to supervise research projects in the School's undergraduate and postgraduate programs; and a commitment to teaching and course development of the highest standard. Candidates for a Senior Lecturer position must be able to demonstrate a track record of research leadership, through strong publication records and research grant applications.

The positions are full-time, and are available on a convertible tenure track employment contract, which will include an initial fixed-term period of three years.
